the weekend we met

It was a cool night on December 13, 2012. Regis' mother thought it would be a good idea to bring her daughter to the Thursday Thaw event sponsored by The Urban League of Grand Rapids, MI, held at the JW Marriott.  Regis arrived with her mother and networking ensued. Garrett arrived and engaged in dialogue with Jamon (groomsman).

Garrett caught a glimpse of Regis and plotted with Jamon on the best strategy to make an introduction. The plan moved forward with Jamon speaking to her mother as Garrett engaged Regis.  After the cursory questions were asked, Garrett implored Regis to share more about her research and about her favorite female 19th century authors. The connection builds, but the conversation is interrupted by one of her sorority sisters.  Regis mingles with other attendees at the event. Garrett stays put, hoping that she will come back.

The hour of Scandal approaches, so Regis and her mother begin to depart in order to be settled in time for the show to begin. Regis and Garrett exchange a glance. Garrett breaks free from his conversation to connect with her one more time.

14 hours later, Date #1: a 3 hour lunch and chat in Allendale, MI

27 hours later, Date #2: a 12 hour marathon of food, event hopping and dancing

15 minutes later, Garrett decides to travel across the country to Pennsylvania for date #3 over the Christmas holiday...

how she knew

Regis knew he was the one after their first lunch date.  Conversation came so easily; things were so comfortable.  Garrett was honest, attentive, and humble.  He was a true gentleman.  A lunch that was supposed to last for less than an hour quickly spanned three.  Regis' mom, Jeanne, called several times, worried about what could possibly be taking them so long!  Regis' biggest concern afterwards was whether or not he felt the same way...and whether he would request a second date.  He did :)

how he knew

From the moment he laid his eyes upon her, he was at a loss for breath.... From the initial conversation, he felt something different, he felt something new, he experienced love at first sight, and felt drawn to her in a new and exciting way... Unbeknownst to him, he felt the connection that can only be explained as supernatural. He experienced his rib in its proper place, right by his side.

"Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." 1 Cor. 13:7
